Foot and Ankle Surgery
Dr. Mandel brings over a decade of experience, specializing in the Foot and Ankle. Dr. Mandel joined Excel in October 2019 and is accepting new patients.
I was born and raised in the Northeast and am excited to be returning to my roots. My background was originally in Physical Therapy. I attended Rutgers University for Undergraduate. I then attended medical school at UMDNJ in the osteopathic program. Following this I performed my internship and residency at Peninsula Hospital Center, part of North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center. I then completed my fellowship in foot and ankle at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. I have been board certified in orthopedic surgery since 2015 by AOBOS and have over 10 years of clinical and surgical experience offering the entire spectrum of foot and ankle care.
My treatments include a range of non-surgical interventions including casting, bracing, orthotics, injection therapy, physical therapy, assistive devices, regenerative therapy interventions including platelet rich plasma, amniotic tissue injection, and stem cell injection. I also perform fusions, ankle replacements, ankle arthroscopy, reconstructions of the foot, bunion and hammer toe corrections, ligament repairs, tendon repairs, cartilage repair/restoration, osteotomies, revision surgeries, and minimally invasive techniques.
Lapiplasty is an innovative 3D bunion correction system that has reinvented our approach to treating bunions. This new technology tackles the root cause of bunion issues – instability in the midfoot, which is unlike traditional repair techniques. The procedure allows for immediate weight bearing after surgery instead of the typical 6-8 weeks of non-weight bearing and crutch use that patients usually have to suffer through. There is an overall faster healing time post-surgery and a lower recurrence rate because the root issue is being targeted and fixed the right way, the very first time.
In my spare time, I maintain an active lifestyle including running, boating, and paddle-boarding. I look forward to contributing and servicing the community in which I will provide care for.
